Emily obviously did not do her OB rotation yet. She just said, "the baby is going to move down into the birth canal before you are ready and dilated and could suffocate."
What??!
Since the cervix had to be completely dilated for the baby to begin to move into the birth canal, what she described is physcially impossible. What kind of hysterical 19th century crap is she learning in medical school??
Sure, if the mom IS dilated and baby moves into the pelvis and becomes stuck from CPD (cephalo-pelvic disproportion = baby too big/pelvis too small), THAT would be an emergency, but in this case, Alexis not completely dilating would not be an emergency, it would be a blessing!! And Emily, if there is a problem with the baby's size, GET MOM OFF HER BACK/BUTT and onto her hands and knees or squatting so the coccyx and sacrum can shift around to accommodate that baby moving down!! Being on the back or butt keeps the full pelvis from moving and shifting.
Rant off.
